About Addison, Texas
Addison is a small town of about 15,000 surrounded by the gigantic Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It lies 15 miles north of downtown Dallas and is sandwiched between Carrollton and Richardson, TX. It was not officially incorporated until 1953, although the area was first settled in the 1840s. Roughly half of the town’s adult population has a college degree, resulting in a higher median income than the state median. Life is sweet for residents of Addison, as the city has 118 acres of public parks and one of the lowest tax rates in the state. Interestingly, there are no public schools within the town’s borders, but children are served by the Dallas and the Carrollton-Farmers Branch independent school districts. There are a few private schools in Addison that accommodate several thousand students.
One unique fact about Addison is that as of 1975, a town election allowed the city to start serving liquor by the drink, unlike some of its neighbors. This has led to the development of a major business and restaurant industry in the town.
Buying Real Estate in Addison, TX
The good news about buying homes in the city of Addison is that property values there are significantly greater than the state median, but that means it can sometimes be difficult to break into the market. However, because of its small size and the demand for housing, Addison offers a higher percentage of condominiums and townhouses for sale than many cities in the surrounding Dallas area. Available properties can be searched online with MLS databases.
