When you consider marketing, forget all that talk about “leveraging” this, that or the other thing. Forget creating “buzz”. And for crying out loud, forget “thinking outside the box”.

Try thinking outside yourself.

When you’re at a networking group, PTA meeting or church gathering and run into someone who runs his own AC repair business, do you think “This guy could be a good source of leads”.

Or do you think “Hey, I deal with people all the time who need their AC serviced. I can give them his name.”?

The next time you’re in a situation like that, ask the guy if he can spare two business cards – one for you to keep for yourself, and one you can give away if you come across someone who could use his help. You just accomplished more than you ever could by saying “If you know of anyone that needs a Realtor, let me know!” because he saw the kind of person you are – giving, ready to help, and concerned about others.

By leaving him with such a positive impression, he’s more likely to remember you and – more importantly – recommend you.
